The truth obliges us to tell you right from the start of this page … Veroniek was no real breeding mare as she never had a foal. Our breeding ambitions started with her, though. So we believe she deserves a spot next to our 'real' breeding mares Anouk and Gaomi and on the homepage of this website.
Veroniek was a Dutch warmblood (KWPN) SPORT PROK mare. Being worked up to Z2-level in the Netherlands, Sarah bought her as a dressage schoolmaster in the winter of 2017. Unfortanetely, she turned out to have a small crack and arthritis in her foot and had to be retired from sports at the age of 15. The idea of breeding started to grow. I digged into the bloodlines of Veroniek and found out that she's of pretty good stock and part of the succesfull Dutch Kattebel mare line that produced international jumping and eventing horses. Spending hours, days and months digging for sires that would match Veroniek, I got infected with the breeding virus.
Despite trying with multiple stallions, Veroniek never got in foal. We decided Veroniek is probably to old to get her first foal at the age of 16/17. And so Gaomi entered our stables and dismissed Veroniek from all of her owners breeding ambitions.
I said goodbye to Veroniek in the winter of 2022. She had become lame in her hindquarters, due to the artritis in het neck and a blocked nerve, and wasn't able to keep her balance anymore. The situation became dangereous for herself and for us being around her, as she could fall easily. It was a heartbreaking descision to let her go, but the only decision to make. She was a special horse to me, and she'll always have a special place in my heart.
